This is actually a follow-up post to my “Illegal immigrant terrorizes local man…” post from a couple of days ago. To recap slightly, a local St. Paul man, Mark Daggy, had an encounter with an illegal immigrant who was stalking his 16-year old daughter. After telling the man to leave his daughter alone, the immigrant threatened Mark’s life and proceeded to ram his vehicle into his fence and property. Once arrested, it was found that this joker had a colorful criminal history, and was already ordered to leave the country once before, and had ignored the court.
So Mark Daggy was kind enough to contact me and fill me in on some more details regarding the situation, and how it was (mis)handled by the local government. What is of particular interest to note here is that the mayor of St. Paul is determined to ensure that the city is a sanctuary city, which just compounded the problem as seen by Mark.
Anyway, so to start with, it has been determined that this illegal immigrant from El Salvador has three names that he goes by (that they know of). He goes by:
- Joseedgar Reyes Mendoza
- Carlos Rivera-Portilla
- Noel Ramirez Riveraportillo
As if that isn’t alarming enough, more information on this guy is coming out, and according to Mark, there is the possibility that he is already wanted by the authorities out East. This is presumably in addition to his other criminal history which includes an immigration court order from 2005 that required him to leave the country.
So after this guy attacks Mark and is arrested and booked into jail, ICE claimed that they put a detention hold on him (which means that if convicted that ICE will deport him). However, the stories started to get a bit fuzzy here, because whereas ICE told Jason Lewis and KTLK that they did in fact have a detention hold on this guy, they told Mark that they did not. When asked again by Jason Lewis, they claimed that they had in fact sent the hold over to St. Paul PD, but that there was some sort of mix up… That it didn’t get processed. Of course, we don’t know the meaning of “mix up,” but it could be something as innocent as a name mix up or it could be something as insidious as the fact that St. Paul has sworn to protect illegal immigrant rights. After all, the democrat mayor has made some absurd statements regarding his stance on defying any orders from the governor or legislature that might require him to enforce immigration issues. This is also the same mayor that moveon.org has called “a victory for socialism.”
So, in my usual method of tossing conspiracy theories out there, what is the liklihood that an immigration snag in the St, Paul PD is an honest mistake so much as it’s something that was done as the result of St. Paul’s extreme sanctuary city policy from the top on down? Makes you think, doesn’t it?
Anyway, Mark himself traveled down to the ICE detention and removal operations office and ensured that the detention hold was in fact in place for this particular illegal immigrant - despite the “mix up” in St. Paul. According to Mark, there is indeed a hold on him now.
As it stands right now, this guy is in jail and awaiting trial - after which he will presumably be turned over to ICE for deportation. I stress the word presumably, however, because presumably this guy should have been deported already.
As a side, note, Mark relayed to me his experience at the ICE DAR office, which as he put it “was a zoo with Somali and Mexicans on the move out.” He also relayed to me that he overheard one immigration attorney explaining to a Mexican illegal that “if he pays for a plane ticket out, he could apply to come back, but if the feds pay for the trip he could never come back.” Isn’t that just wonderful…
Anyway, the whole point is that this sort of thing is absolutely absurd. It should not take a private citizen and a talk-show host to chase down something like this to ensure it’s being handled appropriately. Mark Daggy was attacked by an illegal immigrant, and somehow the responsibility still fell into his lap to ensure that this guy won’t just be dumped back out on the street - something he fears would happen and he makes him concerned for his own personal safety.
It makes you wonder how many of these people like this have “slipped through the cracks” in St. Paul! To be fair, it’s possible that this “mix up” was an isolated incident, but it’s not probable. After all, isn’t that how we have ended up with nearly 650,000 illegal immigrant absconders out there right now?
It shouldn’t be our responsibility to make sure the local government is doing its job. When public safety is concerned, this is should not be a question in any of our minds. When an illegal immigrant is arrested for threatening and assaulting another private citizen, he should be turned over to ICE and sent back to their country of origin with a big boot print on their arse. At no time should there be any possibility of somebody like this staying in this country and returning to our streets - yet that seems to be the goal of sanctuary cities.
So for now that means that maybe we do need to be more vigilant. If it takes private citizens going out and keeping the government honest, then so be it, right? After all, whose country is it anyway?
Stay tuned for more, as Mark has told me that there is more to this story, including this illegal’s possible connection to criminal activity out East. I’ll keep you posted as I find out more.
